I passed up over a dozen legal bucks during archery season and countless doe. I don't rifle hunt but went back out in late season muzzleloader and took my first deer with a flintlock, a nice healthy doe. I don't consider my archery season as a strike out, but very successful. I just didn't have the buck I wanted in bow range.

Archery - I missed a huge 10 point buck and passed on a lot of doe. I didn't think I could pass on so many does but when you see 4-6 does every saturday morning at 6:30-7 a.m. it just seems a bit early to start off with a doe. I wasn't about to get a doe with my bow that early in the season and 3 weeks later the buck showed his face so he became my magnificant obsession and with the time and patience required for archery knowing he was around made every moment worth it.

Rifle season I took 2 doe on the last day which was really fun. I got 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon in the rain which was a challenging hunt. I had to switch rifles to an old open site 30-30 I just couldn't keep the rain off the scope on the other rifle.
I wasn't planning on using the old gun this season but I had shot it before the opening day just to make sure it wasn't out of whack. So that was really cool.

Then Flintlock season on December 26 after getting a late start due to a heavy x-mas day snowfall and power outage I made it to my stand about 2pm and a group of 7 does walks 25 yards in front of me I wasn't even in my stand 10 minutes and I got to pick the largest one of the group and my second deer with a flintlock. Great season.

Three does during the archery season....no buck during rifle...and no deer whatsoever during the extended archery/muzzleloader season.

I had a good year. 5 deer with a bow, including my nicest buck to date. Picked up one more doe in rifle season. I also finally took my 1st fox ever in my 3rd year of calling them. That was more of a thrill than my deer.

I got skunked this year, but not because I didn't have any opportunities. I passed up 3 legal buck in archery season, and numerous small antlerless deer in archery and rifle season. I killed a doe with My bow the last week of archery and it ran out along a road and some slobs stole it. That kind of took the wind out of My sails. I kept hunting, but lost interest in killing another doe. I've become a trophy hunter now that the kids are out on their own. The wife and I don't really need the meat, and the other hunters in My hunting area are doing a good job of thinning out the doe population now, with the Antler Restrictions in place. I just enjoy being out there every day and trying to outfox the big guys.
