Very rare indeed. I had the fortune to guide outdoor writer Tom Fegley on a fall turkey hunt when he hunted with us at River Valley Outfitters. He is a great guy as well as a very talented writer. That melanistic buck is a dandy to boot.

That is a neat looking deer!
In over 30 years of hunting, I have seen only one live melanistic deer.
