Wow, just spent a few days in Bedford Co. Pa. What a beautifull area. Saw Sproul Mt. and some areas near by. I'm envious of sproulman and anybody else who is fortunate enough to live there. I do love upstate NY but man the sproul sure is nice! You guys don't take it for granted. Anyway, I'm back in NY and ready to start the season. By the way, is it pronounced sproleor sprowl ?
It is pronounced Sproll as is stroll.... we have a camp near the edge of it on Beech Creek Mountain Rd in Clinton County.. I didnt know it stretched all the way to Bedford..... Sproul State Forest .....
With regard to the Sproul reaching Bedford I don't know that it does. I wasstaying in the town of Bedford and when we drove up to Altoona to see the Viet Nam Warmemorial (worth seeing by the way) I noticed Sproul Mt soon the way back to Bedford we got off at that exit and drove around a bit. I wasassuming I was in Bedford Co. but I really don't know my way around down there at all. We also went to see the flight 93 crash site and had a heck of a time finding it. That was about25 miles west of Bedford (town) so I don't know if that was in Bedford co. either but again, just beautifull country. The look out where the old ship hotel was on mt ararat was breath taking!

No connection between Bedford Co. and the Sproul SF that I know of, they're about 180 miles apart. You'd know if'n you were in the Sproul SF by the generallack of good wildlife habitat. At least that's what I sawnear Renovo last spring.
its also thick as heck up on coffin rock where the tornado came through several years back. my buddy killed 2 nice deer about 7-8 years back. it has really gone down hill since then. just so you know that its not all paradise in the sproul compared to upstate new york .the river has no fish and is run off polluted. lots of gas claims and coal strippings. you wont see it from the road though.
