Default NYS Conservationist Magazine

I recently read an article in my local paper that said the "NYS Conservationist" is going to take out any articles about hunting and fishing. This is a disgrace. I heard that the magazine is primarily paid for by Hunting and Fishing licenses to start with. I can't beleive the state would do something like this...actually I guess I can based on who has taken over the DEC. I just signed up for my description and found this out. What will we loose out on next?

What you state could very well be true, but I wouldn't completely believe this just because someone mentioned it in a newspaper article. I think if it is true, they will lose most paying subscribers and then won't be able to sell the magazine at all, other than those who get it as part of the special hunting/fishing package they purchased. I don't see many subscribing to this magazine other than NYS hunters/fisherman. Hikers, birdwatchers, etc. don't need to buy a sporting license and few even know about this magazine. Where there are NO subscribers, there will shortly be NO magazine.

Not surprising. In my experience, most folks that call themselves conservationists are anti hunters. Not always the case, just my personal experience.

I am an ex-New Yorker from upstate and have subscribed to the Conservationist for years. But, not anymore.... [:'(]

Look at what New York has done... They appointed that ridiculous, liberal, ANTI, from Queens --- "Pete" Grannis, to be in charge of the DEC! H-E-L-L-O!!! [:@]

There is no amount of money that would make me move back to New York... [&o]

He may be liberal, but I was still able to purchase a hunting license this year (for the same price as last year) and the regulation book still gives us formulas to help us calculate future hunting seasons, so I don't see hunting in NYS going anywhere any time soon. As for the magazine, I surely wouldn't cancel my subscription just because of some rumor that they will no longer run hunting and fishing articles.

Troutman!

Where are you located? I live near Adams and I teach in Watertown.

Where did you read this article? In the Times?

I just sent an e-mail to the magazine asking them if the story is true. will keep you updated.
