Default Maine grouse hunting

Did you you know they are trying to take December out of the grouse season in Maine? I think this is a bad idea.

Yes,thank you, we have been getting some very wet springs in the past few years and alot of grouse haven't been showing up good. This past spring we had a northeaster come in ( mostly rain in most places ) with high winds that had killed off a lot of different bird nests. Most birds that lay early had the eggs rot on them. So until the numbers start coming up it may not be such a bad idea..

You could be correct phil. I lived in ellsworth for the last 4 years and the grouse in that area are limited. I went up north and there was a lot more numbers. The thing I worry about is once it has passed its very hard to change back. I am station in WI now and cant wait to get back to Maine.

I know it will be hard to bring it back, however until the numbers start rising something has to be done. I used to think it was because of cuttings that the birds were not showing up good. But, the last few years we have not seen many when deer hunting under a heavey frost. We normally see lots of birds then.
I was down to Ellsworth last week taken my grandparents to a foot doctor as my grandfather has diabetes. Ellsworth is about 2 1/2 hours from me.Also i had my Irish Setters flown in from WI they had come from the Lakeland area, and flew out of Rhieland ( sp ).

I have never heard anything on the woodcock hunting yet so I will have to check into it.. Thanks.

I have check the recent update and nothing has been made yet for grouse or woodcock that I can find. All that is listed covers 2006 and that is all I can come up with right now. I have only heard of the grouse season being shortened up as of yet?
