Default Turkey & Deer Hunting in Pennsylvania

I am looking for a location to do some Turkey and Deer Archery Hunting in Central Pennsylvania in or around Amaranth, Bedford County, Somerset? I am willing to pay a trespass fee for the opportunity! I travel to Pittsburgh on a regular basis and drive past all of these beautiful farms filled with Turkey and Deer(especially in Bedford County and Amaranth area south of Breezewood. I hunt Turkey with a shotgun and Deer with a Bow! I live in Fredericksburg, VA so I will not be visiting all the time and I have a great respect for the land, conservation and the animals I hunt. I am looking for a turkey per year and for Deer I am willing to work with you to take does first and earn my right to take a buck depending upon what your preferences are.

Thank you!

With just a little more effort, and less money you can take advantge of the tons of public land PA has to offer. Yes many complain about it, but there is some great hunting to be had on public land with a little bit of scouting. I'm sorry I'm not too familiar with the areas you bring up, but the next time you are in the 'Burgh, give me a holler, that's where I am from.

You might want to keep the doe shooting part to your self until you know the landowners thoughts on heard reduction.

And there are plenty of public lands to hunt if you take some time to check them out.

Good Luck, Jim

My comment on Doe hunting was that I am open to following whatever rules the land owner would like for his property! In the areas I hunt here in Virginia, I can only take does or big bucks over 4 years old with at least 10 points! He wants to see all little bucks walk! If we see any bears we have to let them walk too!

I learned along time ago that hunting on someones property was a privilege and that whatever the landowner asked me to do, I followed his direction.

I will do some research on the public land hunting and for deer, I really have no problem trying to find public land and some private land to hunt!

Turkey hunting though usually keeps me a bit scared so I like to hunt on private land where I know who will be hunting on that land and I know that I have a reasonable expectation of safety!

The area you are talking about is covered in public land. You really need to start with maps like a PA Gazetteer ,it will show gas lines and railroad tracks and other ways to get in to areas others don't use.
As far as turkeys go if you can hunt thru the week you will see fewer people and you will be safer.

Good luck Jim

You might want to consider hunting South West PA. Preferably western Greene Co. or Washington Co.

This part of the state has more deer and also nice bucks. This part of the state has a 4pt antler restriction for the last couple of years. This means that many young bucks get to walk. This translates into more bucks running around compared to areas that only have a 3pt restriction.

There is some public hunting butI'd advise trying to get permission on private ground. Besides, this would be a little less miles for you to travel if you are coming from VA.

This isthe buck I got last year. Its no monster but to give you an idea of the kind of bucks you might get.
