Default PA Deer Hunters, How Do You Like AR’s?

Okay, with the rifle opener behind us, how does everyone like the new higher antler restrictions? Are buck being spared? Is it easy to count points? Here’s the big question, could you have judged spread if that was the criteria?

Our group of 4 guys passed on a total of 5 buck, so I’d say they’re working in Bradford county.

I hope they are working, but in my little spot they haven't seemed to do anything. There were 4 bucks shot in a fairly small area. 2 legal 2 not. One was by a kid, the other guy got busted by the PGC. THat's only the ones I know of. 2 of them my dad saw in archery.

I was hunting a different area monday and saw 2 bucks, neither of which could I have gotten a shot at even without AR. I could only shoot a doe, but I always try and think if I had enough time could I have shot the buck. No on both accounts.

I hunted the general area where I rifle hunt in archery and saw and videotaped several bucks.
One was a nice big 6 or a small 8 point and a 5 point, i couldn't get a shot at the 8 point, and had passed up the 5 in archery to wait for the 8.
after i did i didn't see anything for the rest of the season, lol
anyway, i saw the 5 point coming through the woods towards me monday morning and wasn't going to make the same mistake twice.
Around here the AR seems to be working several of the gangs, and drives that are put on locally aren't even trying to shoot bucks, they look for no antlers and shoot them first, unless it is a huge buck or something.
Anyway around here I think it is working
only one illegal buck that i know of has been found around here dead, without a tag, just left for bear feed and that was a 4 point

I passed on a spike and a 4 pt.! Not much shooting going on like it always is. Time will tell next year if AR is the way to go...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I was lucky that the first deer I saw was an 8-point so this year was like any other year. I shot the first buck I saw. It was tough to count points with the deer moving and in heavy cover but it was headed right for my tree stand so I had plenty of time. A couple of guys in my camp had to pass up on bucks because they didn't have time to count the points. All I saw on the cars on the turnpike were does.
