Default PA Hunters how was your first day?????

I shot a hefty doe in mckean county with my browning .270. My brother got a button buck with his 7mm , and my freidn got one small doe with his 30.06. There were tons of shots up there and alot of deer taken that i saw , but mostly doe. Monday night i went to the BIG BUCK contest in Kane PA and let me tell you there were some of the biggest buck i have seen in my life at that. We go every year after first day and this year the trophy buck kill was emaculate. There were also a few coyotes in there too . I saw some yote tracks and heard one howling but couldnt track him down.

So lets hear it how was your first day of rifle guys....???????????

Whack em and stack em

I filled my buck tag in archery w/ a nice 8 pointer so I could only shoot a doe, which I did a nice fatty one.

I missed a basket 6, but redeemed myself with a nice big doe. My dad got a 6 point early in the morning.

I didn't see as many deer as usual. Our group got 2 7 pt bucks 160# & 155#. We saw 2 piebalds one 75% white the other had a basketball size white spot on his side. But they were well over 200 yards out. And yesterday we didn't see much of anything other than our breath freezing as it came out of our mouth. What a cold day. Yeah well 2 more saturdays and the pressure should hopefully out a few more right into our lap. If not there is always muzzleloading season on my holiday break.

Got a doe late in the morning, through the lungs and out the other side breaking the left shoulder. It took off on three legs. I chased after it for 3/4 of a mile across two different farms til I could retrieve it. I hate making those broadside lung shots. Most of my shots have always been the frontal head on chest shot which gives good success. Lungs shots give a good trail to follow as blood is exhaled out of the wounds, but they run all over creation in the mean time.

Late that afternoon I got a second doe from the same stand. Learning from the mistake with the first doe, I aimed at the neck/body junction, and fired, doe instantly collapsed. I did this last year with my flintlock, and it will drop them hitting that area.

Did see buck running in the thickets behind me, couldn't get an antler count, so they moved on.
