Default DCNR Not the Saviour some think they'd be

I these threads on Pa deer management we all know how passionate some get over the issue. It is very important to alot of us. Some folks understand the PGC's management plan others want the DCNR to take it over thinking that they would listen to the hunters of Pa. To those of you who think the DCNR would do a better job I suggest you read pages 69 through 73of Deer Wars. I won't go to far into it, but the DCNR has been pushing the PGC for most of the herd reduction that some of you say is way out of hand. So next time you want to blame the PGC get out and buy Deer Wars first, do some reading and see for yourself where all the pressures are coming from to further reduce the herd. And a t the same time you can learn that the PGC hasn't given them half of what they wanted in DMAP tags for State Forest Lands. It a real eye opener.

I've been saying this. The DCNR actually proposed a rifle season from the beginning of Oct through the second season of archery. It hasn't happened YET.That was last year and I haven't heard anything about it since.
The DCNR also calls for herd reductions yet wants to introduce elk to more areas in the name of habitat.Deer and elk eat alot of the same foods.I think you'll find that info on the rocky mountain elk website.
Now the next thing is ATV trails on state forest land.

All I can say after what I've read is Thank God the DCNR can't control how many tags are issued on State lands even though they manage it.

Deer Wars should be a good read.Like to read it myself if I could get hold of it down here.In the meantime there is no need to rehash the same ole stuff over and over and over.
