It seems as though all the deer and turkey have vanished from the central Pa. area where I do my hiking and hunting. Could it be that they migrate to find food? I've seen some deer but I haven't found a new acorn yet this year! What is the acorn report looking like in other places in Pa?
We had tons of acorns here in Muncy, PA near Williamsport. Nice sized ones too. I think a lot have been eaten, but I haven't seen signs of the deer or turkeys digging for them yet. As far as the deer disappearing, they simply went nocturnal here, haven't seen much until after dark for the past two weeks.
Acorns were plenty this year in Berks County I did notice one thing in particular. Acorns were scarce towards higher elevations we had more acorns in the valley someone said it was because of a late frost last spring. Take it for what its worth.
On our property in Armstrong Co. I have found very little acorns. We were hit bad with the 17 yr. locusts this year. I haven't found a single acorn under most of the large oaks. It seems some of smaller adult trees have produced a little. Wonder what their eating around here?

We haven't got the greatest crop this year in Warren county either. I have noticed that the valleys are holding more nuts than the tops this year. We were hit pretty heavy with that one really late hard frost. Beechnuts are lacking around here too.
Here in Bedford Co. there are some acorns, depending if you are in the part of the county that got lots of rain this summer, I have a few buddies that hunt in Blair Co. that said the acorns at some places was like walking on marbles, big and plentiful...
