Well last Tuesday, the 24th, I got into a climber we had moved to about 10 yards from a very hot scrape on an old logging trail. We have a stand further down this trail and just about everytime I would go in/come out in the evening, the scrape would be re-scraped! So I get in and up the tree by 4:30. I check my watch later on, its 5:34 pm, look behind me towards the scrape and about 30 yards away is a buck. Then another buck steps out with him! not huge be in this farmland of NY where i hunt, big bucks are few and far between, besides I'm more of a meat hunter. The buck pretty much came on a string to the scrape, stands up on his hind legs to get at some hemlock branches, I draw my new Hoyt Rintec XL I'd just gotten the end of September, he goes down, I put the 10 yard pin on him and release. My bow was so dead quiet, all I saw was the arrow go through the deer and he takes off. I climb down, go over and get my arrow, stuck i nthe ground and covered with blood. there is blood where I hit him but as I follow his tracks in the wet leaves, I'm not really seeing any blood. i know I hit this deer good. Then after 30-35 yards I start finding a little more blood, some with bubbles, and a little stomach matter, uh oh....I slow it down, following the trail which brings me to the other stand down the trail. I find where he stops and starts walking, a trail of blood and stomach matter, then there he is dead about 25 yards out from this stand - he ran maybe a total of 70-80 yards! A nice little 7 point, my 2nd best buck though I'd say my best because I'm still very proud of him! It ended up he was quartering away from me and because of being about 15-20 feet in the tree and the angle, he looked more broadside to me but the arrow hit a little back but came out the opposite side near the shoulder, getting lung, so it was a decent shot after all. Here's a photo not sure why it won't show so it's a link.
