Default Looks like the peak of the rut has arrived

Well, It appears that we are in that 3-4 day lull when the bucks are busy tending that big wave of estrous does and not much movement is taking place. Everyone I'm talking to around here is not seeing much except for fawns wandering around looking for Mommy. It should get hot again in the next few days.

Of course that's southwestern Pa. Whats everyone else seeing out there? Big Country is in Illinois right now and he says they're seeing 6-10 bucks a day and the big boys are starting to show up.

Yep, also hit the wall this week here in CT.

Between last Wednesday and Friday, I counted almost 35 deer in that 3 day period. Had an opportunity for countless does, and Mr. Big finally showed up Friday am, but was running 25 mph after a doe in heat. Scraping & rubbing are now almost dormant.

Hard to tell though if the peak is here or it's the screwy weather which may be hindering movement. In pastures, I'm still seeing mature does with their fawns, with no buck sightings.

I think it's more the weather than the peak, but either way the next week should be back to some good hunting here in CT.

Today I hunted in the AM and saw nothing. On the way to the store(11:00am) I saw a big doe standing about20yds. from the road. I swung the truck around to get a better look at her, and sure enough she had company. He looked to be an eight, outside his ears and nice and tall. No mass though. Probably a mounter. Anyhow, I agree we are in the lull, this buck was waiting for her, so she must be near.
