Is it legal in NY to purchase or own a parcel of land and call it a "Wildlife Preserve" without any proper NYS DEC approval or zoneing requirements? I am only asking this because I have a neighbor that has obviously been smoking some good stuff. I should take pic of the back of my property line for you guys! Best part is this property is surrounded by Me (the hunter) and another hunting club that owns about 100 acres! LOL
BTW,the signs look home made and do not have any preserve ID numbers!
I would say its probably not legal but if he isn't hunting you can guarntee that when the 's' hits the fan most of the deer are going to make a b-line to his property, legal sanctuary or not.
If i were you, i would look for an escape trail that runs from the hunting lease to the sanctuary property (if you can) and watch the action during gun season.
He probably can call it whatever he wants. Is he doing anything besides not allowing hunting? If he somehow contains the deer or other wildlife so they can't leave I believe that's different.
