How many Archers will plege to pass on Button Bucks this deer season. Most archers I know carry a pair of binoculars and with most shots in the 20 to 30 yard range it should not be too difficult to see the young bucks nubbs. I will admit that sometimes the nubbs are near invisable even at very close distances.
Yes I will make that plege, in almost 50yrs of hunting I have shot 3 doe, 1 was my first deer with a bow and that was a thrill but the two with a gun was like target shooting after that I gave doe hunting up I know does must be killed but I just dont like doing it.
I've taken a pledge not to discriminate against those with an anti-archery bias and continue to welcome theminto the fold...regardless of how much they prattle about such things.
It's pretty difficult for an archer to "accidentally" shoot a button buck and not know what he's is doing. Besides those nubs, a button buck isoften the bigger of two fawns when encountered in archery season. they also often have amore muscular neck. Other than a fairly new and inexperienced, any button buck shot by an archer is either intentional or an act of indifference. I'll let the other archers speak for them selves bu they're in no danger near me

If guns kill people, spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat!!!
When I hunt the mid-west (120 acres private land)I always let young bucks walk and won't shoot anything under 130", but here in S.E.Mass I hunt all public land and it gets pounded real hard, so it can be hard to be into trophy management. I guess I am a meat hunter in Mass and a trophy hunter out of state. If I had private land here to hunt, I would feel different as I could really use alot of tactics to benefit "my" herd (food plots, trophy management, supplements, etc.). Don't judge me for being honest, its just hard to let them walk by your stand only to be smacked by another hunter 60 yards from your stand (sometimes closer)
I pledge to hunt and take game within the law and I encourage other hunters to do the same. Beyond that I can only encourage everyone to hunt safely and take what makes you happy. Happy hunting!
the only time I knowingly took a bb is when I saw one suffering after it was hit by a car poor thing could barely walk i try to let them enjoy at least one season of reproducing
Where I hunt in Jersey, it doesn't matter what you shoot, there are tons of deer. They mainly want you to shoot does, its unlimited in some areas. As for bucks, you only get 1 per year for the whole state, so you have to choose wisely.
In NY, even if in an area without the new antler restrictions, I would never shoot one because we barely have any already as it seems. I would let him walk by and feel honored not to have spooked him. That's a success in and of itself.
