OK guys Lost Horn gave me this idea on another thread....

It would seem to me that no matter what side of HR or AR we fall on, I think we ought to all be able to agree that shooting button bucks is something we should not do in virtually all WMU's in PA.

Who all here is willing to pledge to be sure that before they drop the hammer on that antlerless deer that it's not a button buck?

Not a problem here BT I won't shoot an anterless deer in my area.

I know of a few large private parcels where the landowners ban together and practice not shooting button bucks.Obviously where they can control who is on their lands hunting this will allow for more shooters in the future.We all know little buttons grow to be bigger buttons.But on public land there's always another fellow who is fine taking a button.Then there's the subject of dispersal.
Personally I agree with your idea because I pretty much hunt buck only.Having said that a button is legal so if another hunter decides to take one there's not a whole lot we can say.

I will try not to. I don't want to kill next year's buck and lower the potential. However, if I mistake it for a doe, I will not beat myself up too much. Sh!t happens.

It's funny about bucks in PA with ARs. You can shoot them when they are 6 months old but you can't when they are 1.5

Count me in, why would I spend close to a $ 1.000 a year and shoot a 40# deer, if I wanted the meat that bad I would pick up a fresh road kill. I like to hunt, not just to kill something.

i have not gotten a doe license in over 10 years.even then we never shot a small doe or button buck. everyone that we ever saw do it was after meat.to change these people, i doubt it.as licenses get more expensive ,more of the brown its down will happen.same with fishing.i talked to many that threw their fish back, now thoise same people keep them.i asked them ,why, they said,license costs.thank god for people with privateland or we would not have any deer left.

Germain, good to see you here again! Havent seen much of you these last few weeks. You are correct that we cant control what some hunters do especially on public lands. My hope is that over time, more hunters will see others doing it and will begin to take the time to look again and let that little guy go. It'll probably take years to make a difference if at all But apparently most of us here so far think it's worth a try. Maybe the BB I pass will disperse to your area

I personally don't care if the deer I get is buck, doe or button buck.

I'm not a trophy hunter so rack size doesn't matter to me, just so it is legal.

I like venison. Jerky, butterfly chops, steak, burger and smoked.

If given a choice between an adult doe with fawns, I will shoot one of the fawns, passing on the adult doe.I feel thatby passing on the doe allows at least one fawn to possibly survive the rest of hunting season. I never felt comfortable about shooting a doe while the fawns stand and watch me approach mamma.I had that happen and didn't like that feeling.

If I can tell which is a button buck, that is the one I will shoot.

I feel small bucks already get lots of protection. I see lots of bucks in Greene Co. but many are sub legal. Last year I had one guy tell me he saw 15 bucks on the first day on the farm I hunt but only two were legal. He couldn't get a shot.

I'm sure many won't like my opinion, but I'm being honest about it, sorry.

Same here Windwalker... I am not into making antler soup...
If I wouldn't know better,I would think that it is the stick throwers who want the AR in place...Sorry boys,you can't have it all your way...Because of the AR restrictions you are goanna loose more buttons cause we don't care about what they show on tv about big racked bucks...Would AR be in place if they didn't have hunting shows on tv??? Not a chance....Quite of few of us hunters live in reality outside of what they show on the boob tube..
