Default WNY Pheasants

I am wondering if any of you guys chase pheasants in Western New York. I know the DEC stocks birds at some public hunting areas and was wondering if it is worth trying.

I am trying to get my Brittany pup into as many birds as possible. I am planning a couple of preserve hunts, but that gets expensive quick.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Joe

I hunt in both western NY and PA. I know that the state game lands in PA are pretty good sometimes. But I'm not sure about NY yet. I just started hunting there a couple years ago. I've hot a gordon pup that I'm looking to get into some birds as well, and I know what you mean about pay for hunts adding up.

Ryan,

Thanks for your input. I will look into PA. Iscouted the Carlton Hill Cooperative Hunting Area today. It is in Wyoming County just outside of Warsaw NY. I saw some Pheasant Forever habitat and there looks like a couple of decent feilds. The NYS DEC does stock this area.

I was hoping somebody out there who has hunted this or any other area in WNY could let me know what to expect as far as crowds, and if they see any birds.

I will be glad to post any other info I can find.

CH WMA has pheasants. Not in great numbers, although slowly gettingbetter. NWTF and P.F. work in conjunction with DEC managing the WMA,planting crop fields (sunflowers, native grasses, soybeans, etc.).

Joe Curtis from the DEC out of Buffalo works closely with NWTF and P.F. chapters. He'd be the one to talk to on the CH WMA.
