Default WV - Dolly Sods Wilderness

I will be hunting WV for the first time this year. I will have a couple of buddies who have hunted there the last 2 years but for most of us it will be the first time. Anyone who is familiar with the Dolly Sods and has any helpful info it would be greatly appreciated.

I have been going up to the "Sods" for the past 37 years.
I'm with Pallof, what were you wanting to know?

Default RE: WV - Dolly Sods Wilderness

When I said hunting buddies I was being a little generous, they are friends who I have never hunted with. they admitted that they only go approx. 2-3 hundred yards off the road. The info I have is steep, hilly terrain with pretty many deer, but mostly scrub racks. I am curious about the mast crop this year and your observations on the deer population. When the WV rifle season begins will there still be any rutting activity? I'm from Pa. and I believe that on the first day the best strategy is to stay in your stand all day because of the large number of hunters and hunting pressure. What is the situation like there as far as pressure on the first day. I realize that I'm asking about a large area so any responses may not generalize over the entire area but I would appreciate any info that you can pass on as far as tactics and I would also like to not what type of success you have experienced on the Dolly Sods. Thanks in advance of your response.
