On Sunday morning my cousin Kevin and I went to our secret fishing hole near the Red Covered Bridge that spans the Wissahickon Creek in Fairmount Park.
Walking upstream from the bridge, we came upon a dozen people and a police vehicle gathered near a spot on the bridle path. At first I thought there might be someone who injured himself bike riding, or jogging, but as we got closer I could see a newborn fawn staggering along the path on its shaky legs.
Rendell's PGC allows sharpshooters to cull deer from the park. Fairmount Park recieves a "Special Permit" from the Governor's agency to cull the deer each year. The Park which is the largest park located in a city in the U.S will not allow archery hunting in the park. The park is several thousand acres in size.
Actually the success of the sharpshooter is very poor.
There is real irony here: they'll probably fine this numnut for trying to save the deer (but probably actually killing it). Next winter they will pay someone a whole lot more money to kill/cullit over bait at night with a silenced .223 and night vision equipment.
They should actually givenumnut a couple of bucks bonus for saving them the price of the so-called "sharpshooter."
I have no doubt a Game Warden will be contacting this idiot. You must remember the Governor's Game Commission needs the money, and fine$ are a major part of a Game Warden$ duty... Shucks, the Warden may even get a bonus for catching a wildlife rescuer.
