Default The KILL is on in Delaware UPDATED 4/11

They wanted to kill 600 does in Jan useing paid sharpshooters. The hunters rallied and the DNR backed off and gave the hunters a chance to do it themselfs knowing with the restrictions that wasput on them (hunters)it would fail. Tuesday the DNR held a press conference to say the hunters only took 166 deer and they were bringing in the sharpshooters as planned. Three3 man teams would start killing deer in 2-3 weeks starting in Suxxex County at a cost to taxpayers of $2000 per team equalling $6000 for the 1st night expecting to take up to 4 days to meet thier goal. Now here is where it really shows the true intentions of the DNR. As they were making thier press conferencesaying it would be 2-3 weeks before they startedthe three teams were positioning themselfs and the kill started that night. Typical lies and deceit[:@]. Total kill you ask? Well those three teams took a total of 6 deer, yep no typo there, 6 deer. So now DNR is wondering what went wrong after paying $6000 for 6 deer. I've lived here for about 6 months now but have learned very quickly not to trust those Department heads in the DNR.[:'(]

That's a shame, they should have jsut let hunters do it. Would have generated money and given you guys some more time in the field.

I hear they are spotting with choppers at Bombay Hook and using rifles with silencers , but can still hear the rifles report.. Should've let the hunters and farmers do it for nothing...

What a rip.they do that in Pa also. But the past years they have given kill permits to developers that our building huge communities. the developers have been very deadly. they Put bait out and mow em down with semis under spot lights. Then pile them up to rot.

DNR thinking *** Let me see now, we could let hunters kill 166 deer for free (or maybe even charge them).

OR . . .

we could pay out $6000 of taxpayers money for sharpshooters to kill (and waste) 6 deer.

Hard to decide . . . . .

I'm not surprised but still appauled....if only they would have given hunters ample opportunity and tags....imagine....hunters should unite to push hunting again.

DNREC has certainly lost some of their credibilty in my eyes. When they originally asked the hunters to help reach the 600 doe total, I EMailed Ken Reynolds and asked if they would extending the gun season so we'd have more time to harvest more deer. He of course said no, the season would end on the 31st of January as scheduled. I Emailed back and said (not my exact words but) there wasnt a snowballs chance in hell we'd be able to kill that many on short notice, that late in the season. Remember also how warm it was in January? Not what we needed to keep the deer moving.

So, now the taxpayers have to pony up for sharp shooters when I would have loved to hit the woods last month while it was still cold. Hell I would have even paid say $10 for a one months special license. But, they'd rather pay 6 grand for a 3 man team of 'professionals'. Not the best way to gather hunter support for your plans.
