Default The Wildlands Project

I was searching online today for an article about the recent jaguar sighting in New Mexico recently and I found this series of articles on the Wildlands Project and who is connected to it. I thought it was interesting reading and everyone here might find it interesting too.

Marlin, this article wasvery interesting. I agree on some of its points, but I definitely do not agree on some of the other proposals.

It is amazing to see how some people think that man has to back down and live in confined areas just so wildlife has the larger layout of the land.

I personally hate urban sprawl. I hate to see large areas of woods torn down because neighborhoods are being built.
But I also love to see farms and ranches and people that are fortunate enough to be able to own 500-1000 acres.(or more)

I dont think that farmers, ranchers and people that own large tracts of land should be removed from their areas of residence just so some animals can do what they please.

We as humans should not fear animals, because we also have the power to act in ways so that we don't have to fear them.

Conservation should not be thaught of as only saving animals from a possible extinctionbut as having a healthy ecosystem.

And in order to have a truely healthy ecosystem, we must understand that we as humans are animals also, and we should not be confined to only certain areas. Because if we do that, then we will be in the same situations as the animals that are being robbed and pushed out of their homes.

I think more steps can be done for conservation, but not by pushing people out of their homes.

Agreed, and if the farmlands retracted, there would be even less wildlife to leave alone!

One thing that I liked about that idea was the "connected reserves". It would be nice to have a series of connected reserves, they don't have to be too big, spanning from coast to coast, so that one could really see what each diverse region has to offer, while the whole time being in a "wild" setting. But I agree that no one should ever lose property rights because of animals. Anyone who was in the Army knows about Ft. Bragg and the neverending saga of the rare woodpecker they have there. Very disruptive to training...not a good thing during wartime!
