Is it just me or in the past years does it seem like the number of red tailed hawks are going up?? Heck, last saturday i was out in the woodsi saw 2 red tailed hawks an owl and someother kind of white hawk all in one day. Not to mention two weeks ago seeing a bald eagle.(an amazing site) How do you guys feel on this subject?
Yes, what I understand that when the young leave the nest they are usually killed by resident adult males because there are no new territories for the young to go into.....seems they are definately established..
Well im not in pa , but I am in the catskill mountains on Ny. Theres lots of red tails around here, a real lot more then ive ever seen. Ive only seen one bald eagle in my life it was like 20 feet from me in a tree if that. I first thought it was a blue heron (sp) then I drove up further and was like wooohhhhh

We have had a steady increase in all birds of prey here in New England. See red tails all the time, and bald eagle sightings are way up from only 15 years ago.
When I am sika hunting on the marshes in MD, I have seen up to 5 bald Eagles at a time, oftten one of them perches high in the big pine tree I hunt out of, I guess she is hunting too.... heres a nice redtail I got the other day in NJ:
