Default anyone ever hunted at Greenridge state forest, MD

helo,
im wandering if anyone has hunted at the Greenridge state forest land in Allegany county, MD.. I hunted turkey last year there, with no success. If so, have you killed anything there (preferably turkeys) and if so, what area (road name, area of park, etc) did you hunt in. Im basically wandering where you have hunted turkeys in MD before, and were successful? hopefully it is in greenridge but if not, where in MD do you kill some turkeys. they sure are hard to find

thanks alot

getrdun,

Greenridge has plenty of turkeys all over the place. You will need to go over and scout before the season to find out where they CURRENTLY are. When I was hunting there regularly I saw turkeys throughout the forest but they do move about so where you saw them last month, week, or even yesterday, may not be where they are today.

Good luck trying to get someone to give you the location of their killz!! Like Steve said, go in and do some scouting early. Nothing better than getting there before first light and listening for gobbles. The birds will tell you where they are. With Green Ridge, though, knowing the layout is probably more important than knowing the birds. Go in this time of year and just spend a day or two walking around, getting yourself familar with a ridge or two. This is invaluable when the season rolls around. When a bird sounds off, you'll know exactly where he is, where he's going, what's the best way to get there, and where other hunters will be coming from. Trust me, put a little time in scouting and you'll find the birds. Now, gettingthem to comeintogun range is a different story...

Green Ridge gets a lot of hunting pressure... Everbody from the try state area hunts there... Hope you like sharing the woods with Half of Pa

You might want to check out Sideling hill WMA or depending were your from Eastern shore has some great turkey hunting... Everybody associates turkeys with western Md

I've hunted both deer and turkeys in Greenridge. Bill Meyer WMA is adjacent to it and is also pretty good. On cooler springs, the turkeys tend to be a bit more active and vocal in Greenridge than they are further west where it's a good bit colder. There ARE plenty of them to be found, but you need to do some scouting first to find out where that is.
