Default Vermont Moose Lottery...

CI, Little Magnum, other VTers;

I'm considering entering the lottery this year and was wondering what you guys thought about the moose hunt?

Thanks

I have not looked at this years statistics...however as of last year your odds of receiving a permit, and your odds of success are far higher in MA.(though stillvery low).

I have already sent my sent my Maine application in for this year...

I see a lot of moose every year, but I've never applied. I think I will this year though. I know a few people that got them last year and I love the meat.

Hey JC,

I'm not the biggest fan of the way Maine runs their lottery.

Good luck on getting your tag.

Cheers,

Mustad...it's a great hunt if you get drawn. I got drawn in 2003 cow tag only saw 5 bull's ended up eating the tag....The state does a great job if you get drawn, you get package showing all the paper company land to hunt in your zone and where every moose was killed the prior year. Fish & Wildlife wants every person drawn to KILL a Moose !......

Go for it mustad. The odds are something like 13 to one for draws on in staters. I am not sure how the odds are for out of state people. I am going to be in Colorado about the same time so I won't be applying. If you get a chance to pick try E1 or E2 (northeast kingdom). Way more moose than deer and in the course of a 5 day hunt you should be able to bag a decent one. I really like the area around Lewis pond in Lewis and the whole area north of 105.

I have a link to a PDF for the application:

http://www.anr.state.vt.us/fw/fwhome/library/forms_and_applications/hunting_and_fishing_license/lottery/2006_Moose_Application_and_Information.pdf

I'll be putting in for one.

Thanks eemer,

I'm going to head down anyways. I've got a ton of family just over the hill on rte 100 from Waterbury, so this gives me a good excuse to go see them.

Cheers,

I will be applying for VT, NH & ME(again). I'm from NJ the southern part. Most people think of NY city when I say NJ. I hope to get a tag some where. I have my 12 year old as sub-permittee. Cow or bull is doesn't matter. I love the meat, as does my son. I will be going back to Alaska for moose if I don't get picked in one of the states.
