Very Nice.

I have a caribou that is a "euro" style, and I love it. I also have two deer racks similar but I cut the skull in half the long way, so you get the long nose effect w/o the full skull.

Looks nice. Also looks like he was a serious rub maker from the staining. You take him in a hardwood-laden area?

Mind me asking if the place you had do it used beetles or chemicals? It's hard to find a beetle colony for hire around here.

Honestly Phade,

I had a friend arrange the work for me. Although I know the individual that did the work I did not get a chance to talk with him so I am not 100% certain as to his procedures.

The guy that did the work is an associate of a world class taxidermist.

Therefore he has made an arrangement with his employer to accept additional work only if he does not handle anyjobs from customers that have previously worked with his boss. (My friend does the job for me much faster and cheaper than if I had to go through the shop)

Knowing the size and scope of the taxidermy shop he works for I am sure they have a large colony of beatles.

As for the darkness of the antlers. I believe he may have slightly darkened them in the mounting process. The rub marks are absolutely identical to how they appeared when I shot the buck, however to my eye they appeara few shades darker.

I will try to find out if he did in fact use any process that would have darkened them.

Here is a picture from the day I harvested this buck..

It's a clean mount, that's for sure. The staining does appear darker, but it may all be natural.

Great looking mount and buck!

Its pretty easy to do the euro mounts yourself. Clean the skull with a knife the best you can. Then drop the skull into boiling water, but keep the antlers out of the water. As the meat, etc "cooks off", periodically pull the skull and clean a the loose pieces. Then put her back into the water. Repeat a few times until it is clean. This will take off pretty much all the flesh and fat, leaving a clean skull. If you want the skull whiter, simply submerge the skull portion (again, keep anters out) in bleech for a day. Screw to a board, and there you go. Euro mount.

Make sure not to use the wifes cooking pots !! LOL
