Default Crow and Coyote season????

I think the DEC needs to make changes to these seasons.

Crow

You can only hunt them Thurs.,Fri.,Sat. and Sun. They should make the season all week long ifnot all year long. Look in the paper or the news. Auburn,Albany and now Watertown are having problems.

Coyote

This year it seems that alot more people are seeing more. I personally think the DEC should make the season year round to control the population better.

These are just my ideas. What do you guys think?

Why?

The crow season is split up to maximize the crow harvest - over thier home andmigration period. Sept 1. - March 31. Federal regulations control how many days total - migratory birds can be hunted. (not which days of the week though). NY has one of the longest Crow seasons.

The coyote season runs Oct 1. - March 26th. Longer than the trapping season for the same animal!

http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/dfwmr/wildlife/guide/coyoteh.html

Both are the longest seasons of any protected species in the state.

Seems to me like DEC is trying to maximize the hunting potential of both species.

Mourning Dove!

now this is a GAME species to me - and not a songbird. I wish DEC would open up a dove season for NY.

What about pigeons?? On the farm I worked on there were tons but I asked before shooting them and I was told not to cause there wasn't a season.

I'd like to see the fox season run the same time (start and finish) as the coyote season. That way, when you call one in, day or night, you can shoot it.

Also, might as well allow centerfires in all regions for night use, not broke up like it is now.
