RE: deer hunting NY - 5G
I'm quite familiar with 5G as this is where I do all my Northern Zone hunting. You're talking the Adirondacks, which means you shouldn't expect to see a lot of deer. I believe the deer density aroundhere is less than 2 deer per square mile. This is Big Woods hunting so be sure your map and compass skills are up to snuff or better yet a GPS can come in real handy if you have one.
A few places I would recommend are: 1) Pharoah Wilderness Area and 2) The Tongue Mt. Range. There are a couple more large tracts of State land, but I believe the two I listed will give youthe bestchance of scoring.
You can Access the Pharoah Wildness Area via the Putnam Pond State Campsite. There are quite a few marked trails that will get you back into the interior. The Tongue Mt. Range can be accessed by State Trails off of State Rte. 9N just North of Bolton Landing.
Although Pharoah Wilderness is larger and more remote, both areas produce some quality bucks each year. As I said, don't expect to see a lot of deer, but if you get lucky you might just knock down a wall hanger.
Hope this info helps and Good Luck!
