Default CT Private Land

I just moved to New Fairfield CT (zone 11) and I have no deer lottery permits. Does anyone know any private land to hunt in the area available for rifle hunting?

I have a good and bad news for you.

First the good news. While you may have missed the lottery, you can still get no-lottery permits for the B season. Muzzeloader is still available. So you can hunt almost all of December.

Now the bad news. Access to private land for deer hunting with a rifle is very hard to come by unless you know someone. I have access and it took me years to get and I expect to lose it is a couple of years.

Thanks. What is the B season? Is it only Muzzloader and Archery?

B season starts Nov 26 - Dec 6 for shotgun and you can only hunt in areas 3,4,5,16,17,18,19,21 and 23

State land Muzzleloader starts Dec 7 - 20th and its open in lots of areas. You can get more info here http://dep.state.ct.us/burnatr/wildlife/fguide/fgindex.htm

You've got plenty of time to try and secure some private land permission. If you're willing to drive, which you shouldbe because you can get from one corner of the state to another in about an hour, you can find something.

You will have trouble finding any firearm hunting in either zones 11 or 12, but if you archery hunt your zones are literally hot spots.

With the short time, however, you would probably be better off going for state land, No lottery, and trying to scout as best as possible.

Good luck.
