So am I and all I can say is good luck. So where are you looking? I live in the panhandle near Martinsburg and it is developing here like crazy and potential hunting lands are shrinking.

There are small patches of land around, but prices have been rising greatly. I just lost my bowhunting land, my family owned 125 acres of great hunting land which was sold a few months ago. As far as hunting government, ive been hearing of some serious bucks on national forest land. You really have to get back in there though, cause once the Pennsylvanians start rolling in in November, the deer move back into the thick stuff. I have noticed that even in really over hunted state lands you can still get a nice buck, if you are willing to walk some. Most of the out of staters i have seen dont go too far from their camp or truck, so if you can find the thickest, nastiest place away from the road you should find nice bucks. If i hear of anything here in Hardy county i will let you know, ive been keeping an eye out for some land for RonM too, but not having alot of luck.

I used to work at East Hardy High School and on my drives I have always seen a great deal of deer over your way belted. Beautiful country over that way. Good luck hunting this year.

..were loosing some more land to developement in Hardy...out by the new flood control project @ needmore....not many deer being seen by the locals there this summer...what bucks seen were nicer,tho...
as for the Nat'l Forests... 4 wheelers still roam at will over a lot of it...getting to those out-way places is a whole lot harder these days. you don't wanna know how many I saw on the Allegheny Mt (Pendelton Co) trail a few years ago ... MILES back !!! but still enough land to have elbow room...

What did you do at East Hardy, WVBOWHUNTER? Thats where i graduated, class of 93. There still are some really nice bucks around here. My buddy told me where he saw two really nice bucks recently. One of them has a deformed rack, it has like 4 or 5 points on one side and the other side comes out like normal with no points on the main beam but 3 points on the very end. He said it palmates like a caribou or something on the tip and has one hell of a spread. There just arent as many deer as there used to be. I remember as a kid setting at my grandmothers house in town during the season and watching every truck that rolled by have a deer or two in the bed or on top. You definetly dont see that as much any more. It seemed like last year i really didnt see any deer sign until i got several miles back on the government . I would get on the access roads on the national forest and just keep walking until i ran out of road ususally 3 to 5 miles back and thats where i would see lots of rubs and scrapes and deer, but you had to get way back in there.

Good luck to all you locals this season, i know i cant wait .

Dave

Hey Belted, I worked as the trainer for the football team but that was a few years after you graduated. I did a little bit of hunting over there with a few people that I met and we always saw a good many deer. Good luck toy you this season ans the rest of you WV hunters as well.

Hey guys, I used to live in Martinsburg also. Check out Sleepy Creek WMA. Go to the lake and start scouting on the back side of the lake. You wont see another hunter during bow season.

Josh,

How are you liking Texas? Any comparison to WV? Good luck down there.
