Default Pennsylvania Spotting Report

I took a ride the other night, and had pretty good results. We were all over 2C, and saw some really nice deer. The mountain bucks are still scrubby, in general, but the lowlands deer are really benefitting from the AR's IMHO.

Just wondering if anybody else has been out.

I'll keep posting my spotting results in this thread. Everybody else do the same.

8/3 - Saw about 90 deer, 25 buck - vast majority were legal - saw5 real whoppers. It's barely dark at 9:45, so there's very little time to spot just yet.

I haven't been out driving the roads specifically for deer lately. Work and family have been keeping me busy. Though that isn't to say that I haven't seen any. I have tomorrow night free so maybe I will run by my hunting area to see what is out. I will post the info here.

I was out last night in a few places in WMU 2B. Saw about 30 deer total but only 6 bucks. Out of those I only saw 2 legal racks.

Went for a ride last night on the way home from work. Most of the area I hunt has roads passing through it so it is very accessible (bad in some ways). 21 deer seen with 13 does and 8 bucks. The good news was that 7 of the 8 bucks were legal! I am going to get the game cam film shortly so hopefully I will have more to report.

8/7/2005 - 2A - 9:00-11:00 Just before the rain started at 11:00, I saw my 90th deer I saw a group of 5 bucks, all of which were 100-class or better, IMO. The biggest of the group looked like about a 150-class 12-point. He was probably the best buck I've seen all year.

I saw another bachelor group of 6 bucks together, that group was also impressive, with several really big racks. They wereabout250yards out, so I couldn't really tell how "big" was "big," but they were big.

All told, I saw around 35 bucks, the great majority of which were (or at least looked) legal (4 on a side). It was very encouraging. I didn't see a single spike or forkhorn. Everything that was close enough to counthad at least 3 on one side.

Once the days get shorter, I'll have more spotting time, and I'll hone in on one areaafter I locate a good hunting spot.

We may have seen more deer, but we had awindow malfunction that took 25 minutes away from our trip.

In addition, I saw one deer who was partially out of velvet. He was a scrubby 6-8 point with velvet hanging from his rack.An interesting development at this stage of the game, I suppose.

8/10 - Spotted from 9:30 - 11:00 in the Ohiopyle area of 2C. Not many fields up that way, but I tried to make due.

I saw 53 deer, 15 bucks - only 7 legal that I could tell for sure. I saw two really nice ones as well. I saw one 14-16" 8 pointer that was out of velvet. Lots of does and fawns and about 10 million housecats. Please people, get your cats spayed or neutered.

8/21/2005 9:00-10:30 Saw about 75 deer, 1/3 bucks. 4 wall-hangers, about 5-10 others were really nice, but probably not buckpool winners. All deer were still in velvet from what I could see. Still seeing some really small fawns. Last night also produced quite a few foxes/coyotes. I remember seeing at least 4, which is unusually high.

Last week in my hunting areariding around for an hour or so before dark I saw 65 deer, 6 bucks, 3 legal, one shooter.

Then a couple days later just sitting at a different farm watching the fields before dark, I saw 1 monster, 3 tiny bucks, and one deer too dark to tell what it was.

kicking myself fornever bowhunting now....i live in a small town....and the neighbor has a decint apple orchard right across the road...i seen a few good bucks in there before...theres a nice chunk of woods behind the orchard i hunt with a muzzleloader.....but theres houses all around the orchard so i never snuck into there........well...one of my bucks i been seeing made it another year...NICE 8pt.....after he sheds the velvet i bet hed go on my wall....kicked myself for never bowhunting...theres a thicket behind a house...and below that is a creek but the bank is 15ft high and vertical....them deer are funneled right on the edge of the creek and thicket...and bed in the thicket...the hard part would be sneaking in there withouth getting busted....but that would just take time and sneaking and very possible because the winds always right for it....mannnnn i should have bought a bow years ago...i could had a few nice bucks from there....dangit!!
