I like some of the videos & books by Dave Duffey (i think).....got them through Gun Dog magazine. Pick a copy up or something like Pointing Dog Journal and I'm sure you'll find plenty of ads for books & videos. Also try amazon.com and search for "Gun Dog" books or Bird Dog books, etc.

If you are in Lena you might want to look up Fred Cass on of the village officers. He has a k-9 shepard, and does some huntin, although probably not with the dog. There is a guy I took a speech class with that trains dogs in Elizabeth I believe, his name is Matt Judges, maybe look him up too. Good Luck

Oh yeah, you might want to look at the sporting dogs forum above this one too.

We have a 8 1/2 year old German Shorthaired Pointer. She is an excellent hunting dog. My husband trained her from a pup. He taught her to stay or Whoa before her dog food dish. He would hold her leg up as to point and say whoa. Then on command he would tell her "get it". He also trained her to "whoa" on a dumby tied to the end of a fishing line. He would have her whoa and real in the line slowly. She would have to wait for the command. We never used any books it takes absolute consistency. People borrow her now for hunting. She is getting old though lays around mostly all day. Any other questions e-mail me and I can ask my husband how he taught her other things. One thing I don't know how he trained her on was when he points in a direction and says bird, she'll go that way. Good Luck.

Get the perfect start and the perfect finish videos, made the owners of Perfection Kennels.
If you don't have the cash for a professional trainer, these videos are like having the real deal teach you how.
I think you can order them online, I'll do a search for you
I know they have some ads out there in various magazines to order by phone too!
