Default Official 2004/2005 IL harvest

Well guys, the time has come to put the broadheads away and break out the field points...so, let's see what you got! just post the tale of your trophy buck or your shooter doe and any pics if you have em. post the location, time of the hunt (both in hours and time of the year), your setup (camo flavor, treestand/ground blind, broadhead) and a little reanaction. id just like to see what people are getting and from where...

we got (my dad, but im posting so i say "we") 2 doe.

he was at midewin in Will County. both deer were taken out of zone 3. the first was last wednesday and was taken at about 4:30. he was using sidewinder mechanical broadheads with a reflex grizzley at about 63lbs. he was all mossy oaked up and about 12 feet up. he used no scents or lures.

we had been tracking the movements all season and just started to get em down. he had been tracking a 10, 8, and 6 pointer that always travelled together. the doe were just to make sure he got his two for the season.

the first doe was about 31 yards, and the second doe (taken last night) was about 5! 5 yards! thats right!

both deer topped out at about 130-140 cleaned. not bad. they were healthy, pretty deer. they tasted great too! (well, the first one at least...second ones still draining)

i have pics at home, so ill get em as soon as i get off work.

i look forward to hearing your stories!

Missed a decent doe while bowhunting, only got in 2 days of bow this year

Shot a doe at 70yds, 20ga copper-solids from my 870
5point I thought was a doe at 120ish yards thru timber...first deer ive ever "dropped" in its tracks, and longest shot anyone has made on our land. Also with my 20ga.

Didnt get to hunt the extra antlerless season[&o]

Here is a picture of my buck from this year. Im 18 years old and only bow hunt, i have been bowhunting for 4 years now and this is my second buck. I was hunting this buck all season and passed up so meny other good bucks while i was hunting for this one. It was the last day of the first half of the bow season and i knew i had to get him because there was a bunch of guys going trough there with shotguns the next day which was opening day of the first shotgun season here in iowa. Well on December 3 at about 3:00 PM i had about 30 deer come running under me and at the end of the pack there was 4 really good bucks all shooters. I drew and they ran by me at about 15 yards i couldn't get them to stop so I let the draw down and hung the bow on the EZ hanger and basically said $hit that is the end of this hunt. About 3 minutes later 5 does come running under my stand and i thought hey i better get ready there might be a buck following. I was right i saw his rack coming over the hill and he was on the trail 20 yards from my stand. He was looking fo the does witch were already gone and he got to a clearing and i mouth grunted at him and he stopped at 20 yards. I let the arrow fly and hit him perfect. I watched him run down the hill and into the golf course and pile up. (It is a good thing there wernt any old ladies out golfing i would have never heard the end of it.) Well we loaded him up on the four wheeler and brought im to the cornfeild about 150 yards from my stand to take the photos. He scored 155" and the g2 on the one side was 14" and the other side was 12.5". I am getting him mounted but he wont be done till August, when he is done i will take some pictures and post them.

Sorry to bor you with the boring story but here is the picture.

5 bow kills this year,3 does a monster 14 point and a 10 point with 5 broken tines must have been a big fighter buck.
