Has anyone ever tried vanilla as an attractant for deer. Ive heard that deer really are attracted to the arroma of the stuff. I'm going to try it this weekend during the late T-Zone hunt here in Wisconsin.

I do believe that it's not really an attractive thing...but more along the lines of curiosity.
If you're in to baiting...try putting salt pellets in a sock...tie it to a branch..and let rain do it's thing on it. You should do this in advanced..due to the lack of odor.

Interesting! What gives?

Vanilla has a compound in it that resembles acorn-according to research done in Europe. My guess is the deer are attracted to what they think amounts to a free lunch.

Vanilla is the cover scent of choice for my bowhunting club here in arkansas. 10 deer down, 1 pope and young from illinois (138). I started using it the last few years. Ive killed one this year, and havent been winded yet.
