Default acorns already dropping???

hey everyone i went out today to do a little last minute scouting and move two stands, and noticed that a large number of white oaks on my property are already dropping big acorns everywhere,, and theres deer tracks all over under these trees. Is it me or does this seem early for them to fall here in Missouri? It eems to me that they usually start to fall around the end of september, not august. Do you think i should rethink my plan of trying to find shooter bucks entering feilds in the evening and try to find good trees they are hitting??

Funny you mentioned it! This weekend I went to my hunting land and noticed the same thing. Lots of red oak and white oaks dropping acorns already. Kinda suprised me!

Angus I live just north of you in Steelville amd the same thing here. Lots of big acorns on the ground allready. I have my stands in the woods on a shelf of a ridge, in a big white oak patch. We will have to see what happens. With the cool August and the acorns falling allready I think we are in for a cold winter.

There is some nice deer in woodson k woods , but its hunted heavily. It is foot traffic only so if you go deep youll do better. They will let you ride a mountain bike there though. I have a trailer set up for my bike, because draggin a deer two miles will kill you[:-]. I have seen more deer on the part east of Meramec Springs. There is two ways in from hwy 8 or the back road from hwy dd. I go in from hwy 8 its a lond downhill to the bottom. You can coast to the bottom. its getting out that sucks.

mo bowhunter,, i hunt mostly on our farm north of salem, but have two leases, and a couple other farms in the area to hunt, Id haev to agree with sharkey about woodson k woods, it is hunted heavily, but has a huge population of does, if your up for a little driving there are a couple conservation areas around salem that are very good, one in particular, and dont get as much pressure as most. Also if your interested, may have an opening on a rifle season lease in salem, or we could get together and try a hunt sometime this fall,, same goes for you sharkey,, we all need to get together and find some of these good white oak patches, and find a few good bucks..

Yea I have been to the area west of meremac springs, or the closest one to St. James. Its good to hear that there are lots of does. I need some meat for the deep freeze. I have been out there 2 days but didnt seen any deer because it was about 85° at 6:00.
