Default Question for the Iowa guys...

I'm going to be applying for a bow tag in zone 4(specifically Decatur and Ringgold counties). I'm applying with some guys that have applied there before, so they are going to show me some areas to hit, but thought I'd ask you fellas what it's like down there. What's the terrain like? Is the area known for big deer or what is it like? This is my 1st Iowa trip, so I guess I don't know what to expect. Anything else you can add would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info.

Don't know muych about that area, one tip Iowa weather is extremely unpredictable, one day in Nov. it may be 70 and raining the next 30 and snowing so pack for the extremes, I have heard good things about the Little River Public Hunting Area in Decatur County, I belive it's 2000 acres, and is the home of several nice whitetails.

I have hunted East of there and liked what I saw. My brother-in-law took a very nice buck down there last year with his handgun. You really aren't that far away. You should get up early some Saturday, jump on I35 and just go there to look around. Even at 2 bucks for gas, it would be money well spent! Jim

Born & Raised in N.W. Ill. & now live in N.E. Iowa. There are BIG Deer in every place in these 2 states-you got biggies in Mn. Too. I am not familiar with the area you mention but just remember-they are not behind every tree-you have to be patient & a 50/50 chance on seeing a nice rack in a week. They all have big bodies as do the deer in Mn.. good luck on the draw.

I saw the most Buck activity from Nov. 3rd thru 14th last year-bucks runnin all day & not hooked up with Does. I "DID NOT" fill my single Buck tag-I saw several good Bucks (I live here ya know) I had 1 shot at a 160 class & "MISSED" at 32 yards. I passed on several lesser Bucks & tons of Does at under 15 yds. good luck again.

I haven't got really any more info, but I haven't really been too persistant. I found out a few days ago that we didn't get drawn, so it's not as critical now. What I'm really hoping is to find some 16 year old kid that knows the land like the back of his hand and toss him a little $$ to show us around. We'll see. Thanks for the inquiries.
