Default The Death of WI Hunters Choice?

From the MKE Journal, 2/7/04:

Quote:
A new Department of Natural Resources committee has recommended making the statewide gun deer license either-sex for 2004.

The change, if it could be made in time for this year, would make the state gun deer season regulation the same as is currently used in "the river block," along the Mississippi River where hunters can shoot either a buck or a doe during the season.

The DNR's Deer Streamlining Team held its initial meeting Wednesday in an attempt to simplify deer hunting and tagging regulations.
I hunt in the River Block, so have had this as the norm for years. My only question is: What took the DNR so long? The deer population has been "too large" by their count for several years. Also, the processing of the "Hunters Choice" apps must have been high enough to offset most or all ot the $3 fee that they collected.

Better late than never.

This is going to be interesting if it goes through. I would imagine the opening weekend kill will go up substantially and if there could be some increase in the quality of the second weekend hunting. For the meat hunters, they might now take a antlerless deer rather than a small buck, improving the quality of future buck harvest.
Also a lot less paper work

Yep, it's about time. I don't think it will really change anything seeing as you get multiple tags anyway. I've been wondering for years why guys even put in for hunters choice

I put in for hunter's choice because the bonus tags that we get with our licenses are no good in non T zone units. If I want a doe I either have to pay $3 for hunter's choice or $12 for a bonus tag that is valid in my area. $9 is $9. Which would you rather pay?
