I want to hunt this fall for the first time and when I went to get a license, I was told I need to take a class. Anyone take these classes? Anyone just test the home test?
I would guess its a hunters ed class......Most times local clubs offer them once or twice a year. In Indiana we can take an on-line class....not sure if you can

It is for sure the Hunters safety class. It is a good program. though I am "grandfatered" I took it with my sons years ago and it was a good deal. It is a 2 day deal I think 4 hours each. Not big deal. You can get the info @ ODNR.Com. You will need it if you ever go out of state as most states out there require a Hunters safety card before they will sell you your permit. There is an apprentice lic. that you can purchase to enable you to hunt with a mentor before you get the hunter safety card. Its on the web site. Good luck and welcome to the world of hunting.
Take the classes, kind of boring but it's one of those things you'll remember all your life. You will also need that card you'll get to hunt other states if and when you ever decide to.
