Default Noob looking to learn to hunt

Welcome me to the Huntingnet Forums.

I am posting here with my guard down so go easy on me. I want to learn how to hunt. I have never killed anything just out of respect but I have always wanted to learn how to track and hunt some game for dinner. My cousin and I are city people living in the Cleveland, OH area and have never been out in nature to hunt. We both talk about wanting to tag along with a seasoned hunter to learn. My father is even more of a city person so I have never had the opportunity to learn from him or an uncle. As I approached my 30s I realized that I wanted to learn how to hunt and now I am almost 40 and still never picked up a bow or gun to do so. I shot rifles and shot guns before but that was at clay targets. I was pretty good due to my love for video games so I think I have good skills somewhere but know nothing about hunting.

So where do I start? Are there classes? Is there someone out there that I can tag along with and learn? I thought that starting out with a bow would be the safest way to go and then progress up to a firearm. My goal : deer, boar, or goat. Someday.

Anyone out there want to help out? Thanks!

look up a local hunters education class(required to get your license), it will teach you alot, but will drill you on your states regulations

Buy a compound Bow, 12ga shotgun, and a centerfire rifle

Check out the Ohio Sportsmen Forum. It may be a good way to hook up with folks in-state.

The best thing you could do is hook up with a mentor in your area, a mentor can provide experience, access, and possibly even weapons for your first try or two. Someone here lives near you, ask around and you'll find your mentor. There's no substitute for one on one training.
