Default Upper Michigan or Michigan

Just wondering if anyone from the U.P or lower Michigan have had any luck turkey hunting or have heard anything about the birds. I am from the U.P and wasent able to hunt the first week of the season because of College but went last Sat. Sun. and Mon. and heard very little gobbling. I was just wondering if this is the norm for the U.P this year or what. Ive hunted the last 7 seasons and had very good luck. I dont know if I missed the best part of the season because of college or what or if the birds are a little behind on calling this season.

I huntmid/late May in the U.P. and they are still in full mating every year. You haven't missed a thing. The birds may have been hunted a little the first week by another hunter, you just have to change your strategy. In lower Michigan, people are picking up alot of birds, but the pressure is heavy in most areas.

In my opinion, after the first few weeks of opening season, birds that are even pressured lightly get used to most calling. After that, I only bring 2 calls. My most used call is a crow call or locator call. Second is a mouth call for turkeys just in case. After that 2 week period, I will just begin stalking the turkeys instead of calling them. I have never called a turkey in during the May season. I have tried many times, but lately I just figure it isn'rt going to work.

The past four years I hunted the may season and had luck calling them in.
Havent had a chance to get out yet this year,But
I will be out there tommorow morning.
I usually set up a lone hen decoy and do some intermitten calling,This always seemed to work for me.
The Tom's have not been Gobbling real heavy yetthis year for some reason.
I live and hunt in Northern Menominee county(U.P.)
I wish you Luck in chasing one down.
