I am assuming you live in Indiana. There are a lot of farms down there and with any luck you can get permission to hunt on some of them. Although the majority of people will want to lease it to you, but you can find those that will allow it for a little help on the farm or some venison for the table. I hunt in Sullivan county, but that is a 2 and a half hour drive from where I live on the Johnson/Brown county line. There is also Minnehaha out on 54 that has plenty of public land to hunt.

You might also want to check out the Fairbanks area. It is open to public hunting also. As I am in TH I have hunted the Fairbanks area. Worst part of that area is you can not use a quad to pull out any game.

I live in Linton try Greene State Forest or GoosePond Fish Wildlife area they both offer good hunting. I could PM specific spots if you are interested.

tim, i lived in knox co. for close to 45 years and spent many days in a tree stand in the areas you are talking about. minnehaha is a great place for early season bow hunting if you are meat hunting. East on hyw. 54 one mile and to the south side of hyw . 54 is an area of reclaimed strip coal mine which use to be excellent hunting . Now further to the east was a small petting zoo called storybook village. To the south of this I have taken several nice deer and turkey. The last time I visited this area coal mining had taken much of this property over. Greene state forrest is probably your best bet. I now live in Crawford co. ill. where the deer and turkey are much more abundant . good luck and good hunting.

You diffenitly do not want hunt or fish any of the coal mine proprty anymore without a permit, or the CO's will write you a big, big ticket.

I really don't have anymore to add as I don't hunt in my old home county tho I should. You first need to get a new plat book outlining the properties, and try to find a map of Minnehaha's land that is leased to the state. At least I think the state still leases it. Should be some decent hunting within that area.

The DNR has an office at one of the Minihaha lakes and they can tell you exactly where it is okay to hunt.
