Too late to start in IL?

Hi all,

I'm new to Huntingnet.com, and to hunting in general, though I've been involved in various shooting sports for a long time.

I want to get started hunting whitetails in northern IL or southern WI, and have been practicing with my TC muzzleloader, and I feel like I'm proficient enough with it. But now it's so late in the season, I don't know if I can get a tag, or even where to start looking for one.

Can anyone offer some guidance? I would need to hunt public land, and I have been looking at the IL DNR website, but there is so much there it seems like it will take me a month just to sort through it all.

only tags you can get at this point for this year are archery tags all firearm tags are past the deadline to apply
