Check for State land/parks by going to Illinois Department of Natural Resouces web page - http://dnr.state.il/ . I believe that Ford county is just like any other county in that you just aren't going to be able to quickly befriend a farmer or anyone else and have them open their lands to you. I wish it were different, but it's not. I f my memory serves me, I think Ford county is one of those big open counties - lots of farm field and not so much tracts of woods.
Yeah you got it...lots and lots of open fields...Near my house is about 20 acres of trees that is owned by the railroad....I want to hunt on it so bad because I know there are deer there because I rid emy 4 wheeler thru there all the time...but I know its trespassing...we have farm land that is right next to it so I don't know if I could just say I shot it on my land...i know its bad but some of those bucks are good bucks...they also haven't been hunted and have all the corn and beans they can eat....
