CORRECTION - UPDATE – The original poster and replies to this post are talking about Troy and Vic from “Trophy Bowhunters of Illinois” NOT Illinois Trophy Bowhunters.

Here is the story behind the name confusion:
“Vic” use to book hunts for Illinois Trophy Bowhunters in the late 90’s. One day, he decided he wanted to be an outfitter and partnered with Troy Hunter and they started Trophy Bowhunters of Illinois also known as TBI and their website is http://www.illinois-hunting.com/. Vic and Troy modeled many things in their business plan after the success of Illinois Trophy Bowhunters. The names are so similar, that many of OUR potential clients would mistakenly book hunts with them. Back then, they even used our photographs in their trophy albums! In fact, if you looked close at their early pictures, they masked our name out, on the hunters who were wearing our camo hats! Very shady!

They are still in business today, but Vic is no longer there. So to clear up the confusion in this post:

THIS THREAD IS ABOUT:
Trophy Bowhunters of Illinois
Also known as “TBI”
Website: http://www.illinois-hunting.com/
Operated by Troy (see post) and now Bill Caputo, Vic is no longer there.

This thread is NOT about:
Illinois Trophy Bowhunters
Also known as “ITB”
Website: http://www.illinoistrophybowhuntersinc.com
Operated by Steve Phelps and Brian Bergmann
Booking Agent – Duane Watlington, http://www.watlingtonoutdoors.com. (me)

A quick look at our websites and you will see there is NO comparison!

Good hunting - Duane

I think if you look at the websites you can see which one is the better outfitter. The one the original poster was talking about seems like a Jr. High kid made it in his bedroom.

With that much time at once to hunt deer, I wouldnt bother hiring a guide at all. Pick a big chunk of BLM land and spend a day, not a morning, scouting tree lines and edges of marshes. The next day get in a tree and make your adjustments from there.
