Last year, at least here in Kansas, it was warm through pretty much all of the bow-season(Oct & Nov). The rut didn't really hit very hard. Compared to other years I've hunted it was terrible. And it was mainly because of the unusually warm weather.
But this year, it's already starting to get cooler. It's getting me excited, that maybe it'll stay cool and keep getting cooler, and we can have a normal year for the rut. Anybody heard any preditions of the weather for the next month? How's the weather in the rest of the midwest; cool, warm, normal? Visit My Hunting Page
Well, the farmers almanac says, colder and wetter winter. Let's hope so, I agree, last year just didn't seem like the rut ever peeked!, and I'd have to say this year will be better, 'cause it would be real hard to be any worse.

I think you answered your own question. Predicting the rut is about as easy as predicting the weather. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I read an article in Deer and Deer Hunting - I think it was Charles J. Alsheimer's lunar study - based on that he is predicting a late and drawn out rut = very poor rut.
Here in Illinois i watched a 8 point make a scrape near my stand last Thursday. Sunday morning i watched a basket rack chase a doe around a beanfield.........
I cant remember seeing rut activity this early in the season. The main rut is still a month off.
