Default Any Missouri slobberknockers yet?

Hi guys!

Just wondering if anyone's seeing the chase activity I've been seeing? Saw a 6 point chase a doe across the feild below my house about 3 days ago. My buddy lives inside the city limits and the sheriff's department had to come out to his next-door neighbor's house and shoot a spike that had wandered in and got hung up in the chainlink fence. Then this evening, a guy I work with dropped by with I'd guess a 130+ 10 point. Used "the can' to draw him straight into his stand.....it's heating up!

A buddy from the Macon area emailed me lastnight that it was heating up in Macon and Shelby counties. I live in KY now, but I'm from Chariton County and hunt there every year. Glad to hear it's getting hot!

Default UPDATE!

Hi all!

Went out this morning and got into my stand in a fencerow about 30 minutes before first light. I decided to try some code blue doe in estrous on a drag rag. Made a nice jaunt out in the feild and returned to my stand and hund it up about 15 yards away. Around 7:00 a.m. I see a buck come out to the corner of my property, headed to the gravel road and the cow pasture beyond. It was nice and quiet so I tried a grunt at him. Stopped dead in his tracks and stared my direction. Another grunt and here he comes at a quick trot. After a few minutes he's standing about 30 yardsa decent 7 or 8 point, roughly 100", but I have no shooting lane that direction. A couple more soft grunts, and instead of coming on in, he starts to turn away. I'm puzzled and though he would stop everytime I grunted, he wouldn't trun back to me. He just kept working away from me. I keep thinking "What happened?".......I catch a glimpse of movement to my right, and I see what the problem is. A really nice 9 or 10 point walking directly at the samller buck. REALLY nice! Problem is, he's about 55 yards out when he crosses my lane...way to far...and he just keeps pursuing the smaller buck. Across the feild, over the fence, down the fence row and gone. Never saw either the rest of the day. I'd guess, just from the quick looks I got at the bigger buck, he'd at least make the P&Y minimum maybe bigger. I'll be back out there in the morning......looks like it's ON!......
Good luck guys!

Forgot my rattle bag this morning, but about 8:00 a.m. had a real nice 8 point come cruising up the fencerow I'm hunting. Got to full draw and guessed him about 25 yards......he was 18[:'(] Shot right over his back....to make matters worse, my daughters were at the house getting ready to leave for school and afterI missed him he strolled up about 50 yards from our bay window...and posed for about 5 minutes! My 6 year old is adamant she would have nailed him, lol! I was disappointed thatI missed, but he didn't have clue what was going on, so maybe in the morning....

Looks like things are heatingup in the Missori woods. Just a reminder to all you other bow hunters. This weekend is youth rifle season in MO, make sure you have that blaze orange on if you hunt. I intend on guiding my son to the nice 10 pointer I saw last week, at least thats the plan at the moment.

Pony

I'm in the southeastern part, just north and westof the bootheel. Poplar Bluff, MO.Wednesday morning, I had a nice 8 or 9 point cut across my pasture about 75 yards out. I grunted at him several times and got him to stop, but he was in a hurry to get somewhere....the only buck I saw that day. Been working since then. The youth season starts this morning and I wishI could be in the woods. The other hunters tend to push a lotta deer during these two days.

Good luck all!
