What is C and C outfitters? Is it like a ranch or do they have a lease or what? I live about 45 minutes from Warsaw and i have never heard of them. As for the Deer, North Central Indiana has some big ones. Are you coming from another state? Indiana isnt up there with Illinois or Iowa yet, but were not too far behind, and if you are coming up here around the 2nd week of November, your going to hit the peak of the rut. You will have some fun. How many acres are you hunting?

With all due respect, it's reeeeeaaaaally stretching it to claim we are not far behind Iowa & Illinois with regards to buck quality. The fact is we are not even close. I've hunted all 3 of these states for years. My big buck sightings in Indiana are a mere fraction of those I've seen in Iowa & Illinois. Our long gun rut seasons see to that. IN registers about 1/4th the B&C entries these other states do.

I'd hunt any public land in IA or IL before I'd hunt even private land in IN.

Good luck with your outfitted hunt. I scored a 140 class on IL public land last year. Passed on every buck in IN and ate that tag.

I am from Warsaw and have never heard of C and C Outfitters! Don't expect hunting like you would have in Ill. Iowa or Wisconsin, hunted them all and Indiana doesn't compare. Gun season in the rut is the # 1 reason. Our OBR is helping but not enough. Good luck.

I've hunted private land in Pike, IL since '97 and have seen a grand total of 2 really nice deer. None of which are on my wall. I was thrilled a few years back to getmy little 7 point.Because of my losing my place to hunt this year I am heading to Indiana to hunt with a friend opening weekend of Indian's gun season.

Like I said, Indiana isnt up there with Illinois and Iowa yet, but i think we are on the right path with the OBR. Some of the biggest bucks ever killed in this state came last year.

Wolfhound, those huge deer everyone talks about and watches on TV shows in Illinois an Iowa, the majority of those deer are coming from places where people like me and you would be forced to pay a few grand to hunt. Here in Indiana, there are still some outfitters around, but it hasnt became the business it has in those 2 states, im thankful for that. We had a big ranch for deer hunting that got shut down because the owner was breaking several state laws, he had guys like Dale Earnhardt/Jimmy Houston, and one of the Brooks and Dunn guys, cant remember which one, that was the only real deer ranch in the state that i know of, it was in the county next to mine.

Wolfhound,

I've never heard of anyone who has had a decent spread in Pike County who did not have good luck every year. There's definitely something not kosher about seeing 2 buckssince '97......are you talkingcalling a good deer over 200"?

Pike County issecond only to Buffalo County, Wisconsin in P&Y and B&C book entries in the entire United States. I have hunted in many Counties in Illinois, all public land, and have seen P&Y bucks regularly. Typically 1 or two per DAY on average. Have seen P&Y quality bucks here in Indiana but only1 or two perSEASON. Last year in Illinois public land I PASSED on mature bucks my first 5 consecutive days. I'm talking about slamdunk shots. On 10/17 I ended up taking the 140 class.

On top of that, in 15 years of heavy huntingIndiana private & public land I have seen a grand total of zero bucks over 140 class. In Illinois there is no real top end limit on what I might see each year. Last year alone, within a 2 week period, Iviewed two 170+ class bucks and videod a 200"+ class buck in September. I tagged out early and never even got to hunt the rut.

As of 2004, Illinois had 2,267 P&Y/B&C entries and Indiana had 487. The OBR doubled Hoosier Record book entries, so that is progress, but it will never bring us close to Iowa or Illinois. If you do the numbers you will see that.

If I saw a 200 class I think they'd have to come get me cause I'd croak. I'd be happy withanything better than the 12" wide 7 point I have. And no I don't hunt the best areas. I'm down in the river bottom that is 90+% cropground. My usual area is a 200 acre spreadthat I have 20-30 yds of timber along a creek bed for about 300 yds with timber on each end (can't hunt either timber)like a barbell. All of it getsdeer drivesevery year. Rather than follow the timber during them they cross the fields since there is zero cover.Last year I got drove over. I see lots of spikes, forks, and does. I only see nice bucks before hunting season and after it. Kinda moot this year anyway since I don't have permission to hunt.

I have a friend who has 313 acres in Pike County IL., he has gone deerless in the past 4 seasons. He has seen several decent bucks but no shotters....I hunt southern Indiana (private ground - won't be revielved) and I shot a 148" 10 pointer last year. Saw 3 BIGGER deer and have seen 3 NICE ones earlier bow season this year. Also picked up my Merriam Tureky from taxidermist lastweek he had 12 deer so far 5 of which were of 150 and he had a 179 (green) non-typical. Also heard that a 260+ non-typical was taken in Rockville, IN this year.

So it is all relvant....if I hunted around Crown Point, I'd be crappy to about the deer here, you just need to places and the money to buy them!

GOOD LUCK, the RUT should be starting next!
