I have 1 wk, what do you think is best this year????

Hi,

I have 5-7 days to go either to western pa or easter oh outside of steubenville. Last year hunted ohio from oct 30 to nov 4 and didnt see the big buck movement i had hoped for. Farmer said they really started moving on nov 5th. In 2003 hunted nov 6 thru the 11th and saw good activity on the 6th and 7th but slowed down the rest of the week. What do you guys think is the best week this year. I thinking the nov 7th thru 12th but can go later or earlier. thanks ps Has anyone seen the moon rut chart for 2005???

I would have to go with the 5th through the 10th or 12th of november. That is a safe bet for the rut pretty much any year.

Rut gets started 2nd full moon after the autumnal equinox. Which this year is Nov. 1 I believe. The first 10 - 12 days of Nov are awesome around here. After that, the big boys are secluded with a doe.

Armodillophil, I hunt right outside of Steubenville and i am taking the 7-12th off. Last year had the 8-14 and shot my buck on the 13th. The Big Buck scorer that scored my buck had the most P & Y killed on the 13 last year.

Oh my my my. Will this year's rut be early? Will this year's rut be right on predicted yearly times? Will this year's rut be late or even worse yet......a trickle rut?I am guessing it will be late as the 2nd full moon after the autumn equinox is 11/16. So, the later the better, however there are some that say the moon has nothing to do with rut behavior.

Every prediction I've seen is for a late rut. My calendar says the rutting moon is Nov 15. We should see a rut similar to the 2001 season.

Where I hunt in the UP, 99% of the time in is Nov 15th - 21st.

I got permission to hunt on a farm in ohio again and I am pumped. My backup plan was state game lands in pa or my wifes cousin farm, see lots of deer but nothing like ohio. Driving up from fort worth texas on nov 5 thru nov 13. Last year hunted oct 31 to nov 5. Saw lots of deer but little rutting and no big bucks. Farmer said the day after I left the deer where everywhere chasing.
