For everyone else, the story started at the Deer Classic. Weston came up to the booth to get some info and swap stories. He soon had my interest with stories of BIG bigheads. I gave him my phone number and said call me when it gets good.
Then my oldshiemers kicked in and I totally forgot about it...
But true to his word, he called while I was at work last week. I didn't recognize the number and answered it. I asked who it was and the cell phone or my ear screwed up the name and then went very clear "I met you at the deer classic and told you about the bigheads in the backwater near Lacon."
All I needed to hear, Bigheads, backwater, Lacon (within an hour from home(barely))...
He even said "We can take my boat." For those of you who know my love of boating on the IL river(extreme sarcasm), I was hooked.
Even though it was a nice sunny day the fish weren't up much. the very cool previous days must have been too much for them. We saw just two bigheads, one grassie, three commons and several gar mostly shortnose.
Thank you again. I won't forget this trip anytime soon.
