Most of them are small silvers. 2-3lbs. There were some bigger ones in there but they weren't stupid and left after they got shot at once or twice.
The little ones just move over about ten feet at each shot. If the bank wasn't so overgrown, you could probably shoot at them all day.
There were oodles of grassies too. Most were also 2-4 lbs. I did see a couple of good sized grassies. Not big.. biggest was probably 15-20 lbs.
There were some micro gar too. Fish tank sized to about a pound. they were pigging out on all the shad. (at least I hope they are shad.... there are huge schools of some sort of baby fish out there... millions of them.... if they're asian carp... we're doomed.)
We did go back out to that general area yesterday. We tried launching from Duck Island by Rice Lake but we couldn't get the trailer deep enough. I had all four tires in the water and the pontoons still weren't wet.
So then we went to Liverpool and launched there. (just barely) I had to back so far into the water that it was almost up to the doors on the truck. Still had to shove the fan-toon off. We motored over to the Chautauqua side and got lost for a bit in the flooded willows. Then we motored up to Big Lake/Rice Lake. It was pretty late then and very windy. We did shoot a few fish but didn't see a lot of big fish. Lots of little silvers and grasssies tho'. I missed another 20 lb ish grassy and a medium bighead. (sigh.. it was a bad shooting day for me). Overall, it was fun exploring the area, but I think we really need the water to drop more in order to get some good bowfishing.
