Default carlyle dam 6/24

Took a quick 276 mile drive round trip if you want to call that quick. Well any how the water is WAY UP. Only a few feet of the boat ramp is sticking out. And for you guys who know the place the Rapids down under the bridge is gone. The river is up and right over them. I ran my boat down river and back up right up the middle of the rapids. Well even with the water up the clarity is about the same and there are still fish to shoot. Was strange in the morning. We got there at 10:30 we were shooting small fish in schools in the 8-10 pound range. Then in the afternoon we were seeing singles and they were larger in the 15-24 pound range. Ended up shooting 19 big heads one gar and two silvers. I only shot at one gar all day. Just did not want to bother with them. Could have shot them all day. My buddy that i took was his first time and he loved it. But then again who does'nt. had lots of bank fishermen that we entertained all day.

You can see in the second picture back behind Jake the river is flat across where the rapids is. First time I seen it that high.

Just checked the water flow chart for below the dam. The day Jake and I went they were releasing just over 4,000 cuft per second. Right now they are releasing right around 600 so the river must be dropping back down. For any one interested.

Thumbs up

Slewrat. My cousin was there on this past tuesday. He said that they were letting out a ton of water. Could not even get up to the bouys with his troller and there was a lot of foam and very hard to see. So he went down under the bridge and over the rapids which are now under water. He said that you could see the wakes as they came up stream. They fished from the bridge down to the big Horse shoe bend. There was no foam and plenty of fish. If the river is still high you can float right over the rapids. If it is low there is a boat ramp just below the rapids, it belongs to the city. Off of Rt. 50 it is the first street to the west of the bridge turn south and it is right there. I'm thinking the river will be pretty packed this weekend. That is another nice thing about fishing down stream do not have to mess with bank fishermen or other boats. I just checked the water flow, as of now they are releasing 1700 cuft per second. Normal is 500.
