BATON ROUGE — If you’re a recreational angler hoping to land a batch of silverfin, the widely-abundant fish being rebranded by public and private interests, you’ll have to go beyond the simple hook-and-line approach that fools most other species worth eating.

You’d probably have better luck with a boat, which is among the methods being considered by the state Wildlife and Fisheries Commission for the recreational market.
Silver and bighead carp — the common name for the fish state officials are now calling silverfin — can jump several feet out of the water, landing in a boat or even a net, which is also being considered as a potential fishing method.

We just got done eating some broiled venison backstrap wrapped in bacon along with some fried grass carp and a side of fried butternut squash. Mmmm.. good AFC football watchin' food.

So is "Silverfin" a name for both bighead and silvers? Seems like we should come up with a seperate name for bigheads.

And then of course there's always the Huckfins

I think they got a little ahead of themselves with that one - you can't just change the name of a fish. There are laws. And they have not gone through the steps to get approval to use the silverfin name.
